5th Grade Poetry

We have started a poetry unit in 5th grade writing at school. The kids seem to like it and I have been able to write a few as well. It helps that the types of poems we have been writing have very clear directions about the kind of words you need to put in them as well as how many per line. Here is what I have so far.

We started with a biographical poem

Robyn
Creative, shy, adventurous, silly
Wife of TJ, daughter of Janet and John
Lover of cats, creating and books
Who feels loving, grateful, curious
Who fears fire, earthquakes, and losing loved ones
Who would like to travel, write, have a child,
Resident of Grandview Plaza, Kansas, USA
Schmidt

Next we did Cinqain poems, which have 5 lines

Scout
Friendly, silly
Snuggling, playing, eating
Love's to go outside
Cat

Pizza
Mouthwatering, delicious
Cooking, baking, steaming
Tomato and cheesy goodness
Pie

Rose
Perfect, elegant
Blooming, thriving, growing
Making people smile brightly
Flower

Then we did Diamante poem which involves 2 opposite things

Scout
Friendly, silly
Snuggling, playing, meowing
Limber, cat, dog, slow
Barking, panting, sleeping
Cautious, serious
Merle

Pizza
Mouthwatering, delicious
Cooking, baking, steaming
Cheesy, hot, cold, bitter
Gagging, refusing, dumping
Sour, gross
Beets

Rose
Beautiful, delicate
Blooming, growing, thriving
Lovely, soft, hard, sharp
Pricking, offending, hurting
Ugly, pointy
Thorn
